INSTRUCTIONS (SourceKrate)
THINGS TO NOTE BEFORE ASSEMBLY
DO NOT over torque the screws, if it is binding up, back out the screw and try again. Over torquing the screws can cause the brackets to crack. Snug is good. The screws will not back out
DO NOT use a drill.
List of Items
16×12 Panel – rectangular metal panel
12×12 panel – square metal panel
Lower Corner Brackets – bracket with 3 tapered holes and rubber foot
Lower Corner Nut – geometrical piece with 3 threaded holes
Corner Bracket – bracket with 4 tapered holes
Corner Nut – long triangular piece with 4 threaded holes
Take a 16×12 panel. This will now be the “bottom” of the crate, orient the logo so the S is facing up correctly.
Grab the 4 lower corner brackets and 4 lower corner nuts.
Set the external corners one at a time on a corner of the panel. It should line up with the corner most hole on the 16×12 panel. Then take the lower corner nut, and roughly line it up. Use the included 1/8″ Allen key, along with a 10-24 flat head screw, and loosely secure the external corner, panel, and internal corner together from the bottom(side with rubber).
Repeat on all 4 corners, leave just a little loose for easier fitment of other panels.
Now add one by one, the rest of the 4 panels into the groove created by the lower corner brackets and nuts. Fasten as you go, leaving the fasteners just a little bit loose. All panels orient with the slots running horizontal.
Then you can move onto the top corners. Using the corner brackets(4 holes) and corner nuts(4 holes) line up with the top corners of the panel and thread into the triangular piece. Do this on all top 4 corners leaving them barely loose.
There should be 2 more Corner brackets and Corner Nuts. Those will go along the bottom on the long(16″) sides centered. These help the bottom not flex when carrying heavier things.
After all the brackets are on. You can tighten them all down. They don’t have to be torqued too tight, just snug. Over torquing can crack the brackets.
For attaching the M-LOK compatible accessories, the best instructions are currently on Youtube from Magpul. Here are some written ones.
Attach bolt and nut to desired accessory. with the wider section of the nut facing out. Leave the nut loose on the bolt, keeping about a 1/16″ gap between the accessory and the nut.
Orient the nuts horizontally to match the length of the slot, slide the accessory with fasteners onto the slots at your desired position.
Using your Allen key, start rotating the bolt. The nut should rotate 90 degrees to where it is perpendicular to the slot. Then it should self tighten, If the nut continues to spin, it means that the gap was not set properly. If the nut does not spin and just tightens down on the accessory, the same is true. It can take a couple of tries, but becomes easier after some experience.
The only accessories that don’t mount using this process is the NET KIT.
The preferred method of mounting the net kit is as follows.
Taking the small knobs with a center holes, insert a screw. Line them up with the small round hole closest to the corner bracket on the top edge of the 16×12 panel. Using an M-LOK nut backwards, thread the nut on, backing it with your fingers as you tighten down with the Allen key. It just needs to be snug, as long as it isn’t rattling and loose it will be sufficient.
The mounts with the fabric edge running along the edge of the panel.
SourceSteer Assembly (Video Below)
1. Unbox and Prepare the Gantry Plate Assemblies
Open the SourceSteer box and remove the two foot peg assemblies and two aluminum rails.
Each foot peg assembly includes 4 wheels:
Top Wheels: These have hex nuts with a small alignment groove.
Bottom Wheels: These have round spacers.
To install the foot peg assembly onto the rail:
Adjust the top wheels first. Use a small wrench or pliers to turn the hex nuts until the alignment groove is horizontal.
Slide the assembly onto the rail.
Gently adjust the hex nuts until the assembly fits snugly on the rail with no wobble.
Important:
There is a left and right foot peg assembly. You can tell which is which by:
The hex nuts being on top.
The peg pointing forward toward you when mounted correctly.
The small set screw should be behind the foot peg when correctly installed on the gantry plate.
2. Attach the L-Brackets to the Rail Assemblies
Each L-bracket has two different hole sizes:
The small hole is for a 5mm button head screw and T-nut.
Lightly thread the screw and T-nut through the small hole in the bracket.
Loosely attach a bracket to each end of the foot peg/rail assembly.
Tighten slightly so the brackets stay in place but can still be moved for alignment.
3. Mount the Brackets to Your Kayak
Locate the mounting points on your kayak.
Align the L-brackets with these points.
Use the included 1/4″-20 button head screws to secure the brackets to the kayak.
Once everything is positioned correctly, go back and tighten the smaller 5mm screws to lock the rail in place on the brackets.
4. Add End Caps to the Rails
Use the provided tapered flat-head 10-24 screws to attach the plastic end caps to each end of the rail.
If you plan to route steering cord or cable:
Use the end caps with built-in eyelets to help guide the cordage through cleanly.
5. Connect Steering Cord to the Peg Assemblies
On each foot peg assembly, you’ll find a small slot in front of the foot peg.
Thread your cord (or spectra cable) through this slot and tie it off securely.
For spectra, your favorite fishing knot works well.
Use the set screw behind the peg to help make fine adjustments to the cable length and tension as needed.
